Tomb Raider Underworld
Feb 28, 12:15 pm

I have a feeling like a cold stone in the pit of my stomach. It’s fear. Above that stone flutters a cloud of tiny pink butterflies. It’s excitement. I have a warm fuzzy feeling around my cheeks. It’s anticipation. These feelings tell me there’s a new Tomb Raider game on the way.

Now I think I’ve made it fairly clear in the past that Tomb Raider holds a certain amount of importance in my life. TR: Legend’s release was a momentous moment for me, and I was fit to burst when TR: Anniversary appeared.

If anything Tomb Raider Underworld is even more exciting. The Tomb Raider series is back in full force. Developer Crystal Dynamics have won back the die hard fans’ trust by lovingly restoring what was great about the original games and adding the current gen’s sheen of stunning graphics and modern gameplay mechanics. They’ve also won over a new generation of gamers with no preconceived notions as to what to expect from the game. So what will they do now? Will the developers’ confidence make them go over board in adding new concepts and again pull Lara away from her exploring roots? It’s possible. The new game touts human enemies and a variety of new weaponry and melee combat tactics. For me that raises alarm bells that the concentration has moved away from what Tomb Raider fans care about. Also promised is an all new weather system and an ever changing Lara who will become dirty and disheveled as she moves through the environments.

Although the game promises much including a host of locations from around the world and a top notch storyline, I’ve yet to hear anything about the tombs and puzzles. It’s lucky then that I’ve grown to respect and trust Crystal Dynamics and their reverence for the series is undeniable. I wait with bated breath for more information on the game.
