I only have eyes for Rayman
Nov 15, 6:00 am

At the beginning of the year I attended the Ubisoft E3 Preview event with Brookelyn. She and I were covering the event for the first time as media but my hidden agenda was to get my hands on some of the shooters they were showing. That personal FPS mission was thwarted by, floating, slapping, swimming, jumping, living hand drawn art. From the moment I saw it, I became completely obsessed with the beautiful, unique 2D side scrolling platformer… Rayman Origins.

From then on, I only had eyes for Rayman. I have been following this game all over, from one event to another all year long. Playing through every different demo we offered, collecting every treasure, searching for every hidden area, working with different co-op partners to beat the boss, finish the race or complete each level offered to the max. This game continued to surprise me over and over. Just when I thought I had discovered everything, we would find something new. I have never seen a game like this before; it’s a living work of art. It has captivated me from the moment I first played it. In a season of big name shooters and assassin’s it’s easy for a game like this to get over looked. I’m here to tell you, that would be a damn shame. With all the games I have sitting on my desk, this is the one I am most looking forward to and will probably be the only one I will make time to play in it’s entirety. I plan to discover everything I can about Rayman and his origins.

STORY:
When the Glade of Dreams is overrun by “nefurrious” Darktoons, the Fairy Council hastily invokes Rayman to save the day. He teams up with his best friend, Globox, and two crafty wizards, the Teensies. Together, they will fight to restore peace to the Glade or watch as their beloved home vanishes like a bad dream.

INFO ABOUT THE GAME:
- Rayman Origins is a beautiful 2D side scrolling platformer, similar in playing style to that of Little Big Planet or The New Super Mario Brothers.
- The game allows up to 4 person jump-in/jump-out local co-op game play. This is a great feature. It allows for players of all skill level to play together. If someone is having trouble with a particular part of the map they can let a more skilled gamer get through it and join up with them once the other player or players are successful.
- Rayman Origins offers a massive universe to explore. The game hosts over 100 different hand drawn characters set in one unique environment after another. There are 12 very different worlds with over 60 levels to conquer using multiple styles of play.
- The game features elements of action, adventure and beat-‘em-up comedic game play. It’s not just running and jumping. The levels are designed to showcase different abilities and types of play, like swimming, floating, slapping, bouncing, and punching. Each character has special moves and as you unlock abilities you will be able to return to previous levels to discover new paths and uncover secrets.
- Rayman Origins was developed by the UBIart Montpellier studio. This game is built on an open-source game engine (the UBIart Framework), designed by Michel Ancel, the original creator of Rayman. The UBIart engine allows for artists to put their hand drawn art directly into the game. Resulting in great strides in creativity and innovation by allowing smaller teams of artists and developers to produce the highest quality graphics and gameplay quickly and efficiently.
- This game offers a little something for everyone, and is the perfect game for the holiday’s. It’s challenging enough for the hardcore gamer but fun enough for the noob. Rayman Origins is available on November 15th on PlayStation system, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.
