I’m in a super investigative mood this week. I’m still ploughing through Phoenix Wright 3: Trials and Tribulations, after receiving it as a present on my birthday. I’m on the second case at the moment. Occasionally it’s a little odd as there’s more than a few references to the previous games (I strangely and deliberately ignored PW2), but my puzzlement isn’t enough to deter my unfolding joy.
Some of you may recall I bestowed Phoenix Wright 1: Ace Attorney with a place in my top ten list of favourite games EVER back in January. It followed the game’s namesake, a wet-behind-the-ears solicitor (no lawyer thanks - we’re British), on his journey to avenge his mentor’s death whilst getting involved in lots of mysterious, sometimes-psychic, and often downright weird storylines linked to his cases. It was packed full of charm, great dialogue, brain-taxing cases and a brilliant musical score. It also boasted the hottest baddie to ever grace the Nintendo DS, Miles Edgeworth (I think FFVII definitely gave me a grey-hair fetish with men.) If solicitors looked like that, I’d break the law every day.
Trials and Tribulations is, apparently, the last instalment we share with Mr Wright, before we’re treated to Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, where a new main character takes over. And if you love the Phoenix Wright series as much as I do, I’m sure you’re just as sorry to see it draw to a close.
I won’t ruin it for you by divulging spoilers, but I do dare to mention that many characters from the previous instalments make a welcome return. It also still retains that unmissable, bizarre Phoenix Wright blend of humour (keep an eye out for Godot, the prosecutor who enjoys drinking seventeen cups of coffee each trial day.) And if you haven’t introduced yourself to the Phoenix Wright series yet - what the hell are you doing? Go and buy yourself one of the games now! Phoenix Wright 3 isn’t available in the UK at the moment, but fairly easy to pick up on import.
Next stop - CSI 4: Hard Evidence on the Xbox 360. Hang on a minute - I rather fancied William Peterson (otherwise known as Gil Grissom in CSI) when he was in Manhunter. Another broody grey-haired man. Pure co-incidence? I think not! Perhaps I need to gather more evidence…
