Tips To Beat Up The Winter Blues

When I feel those wintertime doldrums sneaking up, I like to punch those blues in the face with a new punch of color.
This week I finally got to the fed up level of boredom with my platinum blonde I’d been rocking for about a month.

In this two-part photoblog, I’m going to show you the crayola colored tips I went with and how to pack your own preferred punch o’color into your hair, no matter what color it is! Included is one festive idea for those who want to get weird for the holidays. [;

Even if dyeing your do isn’t up your alley, you have to appreciate that I took the photos of my own hair processing by holding my iPhone (camera) with a gloved hand that was getting increasingly dirty with bleach or dye!

Since I assume most don’t have hair devoid of any color like I do, I bought a weft of brown human hair to bleach & dye to present you with a complete set of instructions to get go all haircrazy on your bad self.

That $20 ‘human hair’ I’d purchased to demonstrate how to pre-lighten and color darker hair for you? ..it kinda fried, as you’ll see in the first photo of the blog. I have doubts about the accuracy of the label & the saleslady claiming it to be real human hair, it has a somewhat artificial look and feel to it. Moreover, it didn’t react to the chemicals the way real hair would.

Thankfully I was able to sweet-talk my mother into sacrificing several chunks of her own lengthy locks since she’s cutting it off soon anyhow. I just snipped off some rounds of hair & arranged the hair into three homemade highlight example extensions to color for you! The most agreeable mother ever award goes to mine.

So I’ll use the clips of her dark brown hair to show you the entire process to get some cool color in your coif. You’ll select one or more slices of hair in your hair and follow my steps from bleaching to washing out your color-soaked strands at finish!

Finally, I’ll show you the bit of aqua, violet and blues I tipped into my blonde mop.

Step 1
• Gather your hair goodies – refer to the first photo for the pictorial list of materials!

Step 2
• Mix bleach powder & developer.
• Select a slice of hair & lay a foil under it.
• Apply bleach to the bottom few inches of your locks(or full length of, depending on your preference).
• Fold the foil over and again voila you have your first highlight bleaching out!
• Finish applying all the bleach blonde to your hair that you’d like to.
• Apply a processing cap over your head of foils.
• Timing: *Note: Everyone’s hair lifts to lighter blond shades at different rates. There isn’t an exact standard for timing hair bleaching- its all up to factors like beginning hair color, characteristic and individual processing time. This is why many go get their hair professionally lightened. To DIY, my advice is to set a timer for 15 minutes or so & see if it looks like the hair lifted to a bright enough blonde. It likely hasn’t, depending on the depth of your starting shade, so fold it back on & keep checking every 10 minutes after that. When it appears to have lifted to the desired lightness, rinse one of your highlights all the way out to be sure.
• Wash and your newly blonde-tipped trusses!

Step 3
• Paint on your pick of punky poison as you please!

Now to give you a look at how I chose to kill off my wintery snow-white boredom!
