Interview: The true King of Kong
Oct 21, 6:05 pm

Michel Ancel and Xavier Poix
Those of you who have played Beyond Good and Evil will be aware, maybe not of the man, but at least of the work of great games designer and director Michael Ancel. For those who never played BG&E it was a stunningly beautiful game which received the sort of critical acclaim for its creative depth and gameplay reserved for a select elite of titles such as Prince Of Persia and Ico.

On hearing that he would be taking the reins on Peter Jackson’s King Kong my interest in the game went from “ooooh” to “oooooooooooh!” and that’s pretty much as high as my oooh scale goes. Having now played a giant ape sized portion of the game I can say that Ancel has lived up to my expectations. Kong is an amazing game.

I was extremely fortunate to get the chance to meet and interview Monsieur Ancel at the launch of King Kong in London’s Rex Cinema. We found a quiet moment between screenings to cosy up in the front row of the cinema, alone except for the huge ancient face of Kong glowing from the screen.

Thanks to Michel Ancel for his time.
