I’ve made no secret of the fact I was pretty hooked after the military training I received at Warfighters. Since I wrote my last blog about this, I’ve kept up the interest and now regularly spend weekends at the Warfighter’s base. There’s no better way to spend an afternoon than rolling about in mud and cowpats, riding in Humvees, and flinging grenades and flashbangs. It’ll be no surprise to you then that I was there again this weekend - but this time it was a very special event. The missions, camo and terrain Warfighters usually use is based around the environments of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (GRAW 2 was announced last week!) This weekend it was a special event to celebrate Rainbow Six Vegas. Clad in our Rainbow gear, we were fighting a group of nasty terrorists called Black Orchid who were trying to secure some nasty chemicals.
I got to experience some very different locations from the ones I’d grown used to. Rather than running around acres of terrain, the new tactics were based around room clearance and “steal the sample” type missions. I was chosen to be Commander of the Rainbow team, which meant concentrating on planning out tactics using photos and plans of the territory before entering it. I also had to make sure I retrieved the package containing the intel in each mission.

It was an incredibly fun day. I loved the room clearance element which was exactly like Rainbow Six. If only we’d had a snake cam! Unfortunately one of our men went down jumping out the Humvee. I thought about shouting “Logan is down!” but we figured he might have a broken ankle, so I didn’t want to be flippant. He was evac’ed out in a Land Rover to hospital. Luckily it was just a sprain, but these are the dangers of fighting imaginary terrorist groups. During lunch I was treated to birthday cake with candles and all the trimmings, sitting on a Howitzer gun. At the end of the day everyone who attended was given a copy of Rainbow Six: Vegas and a Rainbow patch for their efforts.

So it seems I‘ve really taken to playing real life versions of my games. If I start creating Pinatas out of cushions in my house and try to make them mate, you know I’ve taken it too far and must be stopped… with a virtual floating spade.
Check the forum for photos of the day (the Rainbow Six one, not the Pinata one) once I receive them!
