One for the team
Oct 04, 6:05 pm

Jack in Predator modeNow that us girls have been playing online together for a while we are beginning to get a feel for each others game and slowly but surely are becoming a tight team. There’s more to team work that just run about in a clump shouting “there’s one, shoot him!” Most people in clans already know this and have their snipers, tanks, wing men, medics and so forth but a really great team will go the extra mile and use a tactic that many just can’t bring themselves to. That tactic is self sacrifice.

Some might just be willing to lure the Predator away from their team mates in Far Cry, even though that’s almost certainly going to result in having your face ripped off and your limp body flung 30 feet. It’s a scary prospect but not entirely selfless. You get to be the big hero hunted down by a scary monster.

There’s another type of sacrifice though. It’s less heroic and cool. Maybe it’s a female thing. We’ll put the team above everything else, including our own pride. Taking one for the team can plum the depths of morality and make you question your very ethics. Yes folks, I’m talking about having to intentionally shoot your own, kneeling, team mate in the face! Being bait for the predator might seem like a sacrifice but there are worse things, trust me.

The issue came up the other night on Rainbow Six Lockdown. We were playing Retrieval and I had the sample.  We made it to the drop point but for some reason I couldn’t drop the damn thing. We stood around for a bit but the enemy was closing in.  What to do. Hmmm… Why won’t it drop? Why am I having problems passing it to a team mate? We were out of time a decision had to be made. The only way I would be able to drop the sample would be to die. I know what you’re picturing. Me crouched, screaming “Do it, man, just do it!” as one of my team mates slowly raised their gun, shaking while the others cried in anguish and looked away but we have Sarin on our team so she said ‘I’ll do it’ BANG!  and shot me in the face. No fuss, no muss, She’s a cold, hard woman but she did what had to be done and I took it like the stand up kinda gal I am. I’m hoping our tight teamwork won’t always involve me getting shot in the face but if needs be a Frag Doll will always take one for the team.
