There was a time many moons ago when I was a total ludite. I know. It’s hard to believe that someone who has every current gen console, a pretty powerful PC, an iPod and a mobile phone that plays Cities of Gold and All Your Base when I get a text could have ever lived a life were almost everything I owned was made in the fifties. Right down to my shoes, my Dansette record player and my curtains. These were my technology wilderness years.
Thing is though I never do things by half. I spent many years at the BBC learning about journalism and broadcasting. I found then that there were some things that were in fact better made ‘back in the day’ Many recording studio’s, although adapted, still contain a lot of old equipment that works beautifully. There are other things though that require the latest technologies to get the very best quality. I learned at the BBC to embrace both the old and the new. From that time to this I have become more and more enthralled by every new gadget. I do however take the quality of broadcasting material very seriously. Since Frag Dolls started doing podcasts and FDTV I’ve strived to make sure that they are of as good a quality as we can manage both in terms of content and sound and visual quality.
One of the things that we noticed in our Skype meetings was that we all had different quality headsets and mics and this was something I made a point of trying to amend. I knew exactly what I wanted and anyone who knows about earphones and headsets has probably anticipated what I’m about to say. We went to Sennheiser and told them that the Frag Dolls needed their dulcet tones to come across perfectly in every podcast and interview and they were kind enough to immediately send us out some fantastic headsets.
We’d just like to say thank you to Sennheiser for being very sweet to us. Keep an ear out for up coming podcasts and just listen to that quality!
