Well I did it. In a previous blog, I promised you I’d learn, record and perform a song using Jam Sessions, the guitar simulator on the DS, and I have. I know it took a while. I won’t go into how much preparation I had to do to get it all done, but it was a lot! I can’t play guitar, I can’t sing and I have no natural musical talent whatsoever - but so what, eh? I wanted to show that anyone could play Jam Sessions and believe me, if I can then so can you.
Of course, I couldn’t just pick something that was really easy to play on Jam Sessions like Wild Thing. Not only would it defeat the purpose but it’s just not like me to take the easy route when there’s a more grueling route staring me in the face. I wanted to perform a song that was a little bit of a challenge musically, and related to gaming. So I recorded Still Alive from the video game Portal (part of the Orange Box). I thought it was an inspired idea, although I have to say I’m now thoroughly sick of the song after playing it on my iPod day in, day out for weeks and then practicing it over and over.
I’d like to make a call to arms here. I want you all to go and record a version of the song yourselves using your webcams and send it to us. If enough of us do it I want to edit it all together and I’ll put it up on the Frag Dolls UK site. I know it’s embarrassing but it can’t be any sillier than mine. Show your love for Portal and then we’ll share it with the world!
