Every Christmas we would unwrap the book. Who would it be this year? What were people around the world doing with their lives to make them a unique one in 6 billion? It could be the best beard of bees, or maybe the longest ever toenails, but whatever we found in this book of dreams, it was the best of the best - the Guinness World Record. I wanted to spend my days taming insects to colonise my face, or wrapping my feet in polyurethane to protect my outstanding claws. I wanted to jump the furthest, grow the tallest, sprint the fastest, but sadly I never could.
A new dawn is here, Guinness World Records has broken into a world that I can be a part of. They have launched the Gamer’s Edition. It is like a dream come true. I could be the first woman with a beard of Wiimotes, or pull off the longest controller pad fling after playing Ninja Gaiden for too long. In fact, Kitt and Jam have already taken part in the most ever passes of the controller in Guitar Hero 3. The event was held at Zavvi in London, and saw a wealth of folk from the gaming world as well as casual bystanders queueing up to offer their jammin’ skills.
The best news is that this book, released last week, is just a first edition - so there’s plenty of scope to get in there and be the best. So far Guinness have worked with Twin Galaxies, self-styled guardians of the high score, to ensure a good first set of records, and plan to evolve the content of the book over the next year as we all get in touch and start breaking records. I challenge you to do surgery more precisely than me on the Wii’s Trauma Centre, and then we can team up and beat the world record time for cutting someone open and killing all the GUILT known to man. W00t! We will be kings among men (and women I guess).
Check me and the other Dolls out at the Guinness World Records Gamers Edition launch, and of course the Guitar Hero 3 World Record attempt in this video. You can also check out photographs from both events in our gallery.
