In the big bad world of self projection, it is very important that we come across as we mean to. In a networking meeting we may want to highlight our skills. Show that we are ambitious and highly achieving, yet approachable. In other situations modesty, compassion and intellectualism may be favoured. One word can change how people see you, or in my recent case it was two words. I was mid conversation when my hobbies came up, and I of course placed ‘online gaming’ quite high on my ‘things I like to do’ scale. But I had never really thought about what ‘online gaming’ actually means to people. I guess I would approach the situation with a response such as ‘Oh really, what do you play?’ But this may not be the norm. Some associate online gaming with weapons and war fanatics, people who want to sit at home and blow stuff up whilst generally yelling some obscenity. Others simply jump to the conclusion that all online games are MMORPGs. You say the fateful two words and they no longer know how to respond to you, least you begin to tell them about your current skill level or start an argument about the virtues of being a Mage. There is one dimension to all this that I had completely overlooked, and that was the new and ever growing area of online gambling. It’s not for the weak, it’s not for …

Sarin entered the world of gaming in 1992 from her home town in Wicklow, Ireland. A slightly obsessive personality combined with her attention to detail made hours of puzzle solving a natural pastime. The early 90s infestation of point and clicks pushed Sarin firmly into gaming mindset that would turn out to be a lifestyle choice.
From a family background in business and cookery to qualifications in Pathology and teaching, Sarin’s interests have always been varied. Her student lifestyle gave her plenty of opportunity to stay up all night with a good action adventure or racing around on Xbox Live. However she is happy in most genres and will try anything once! After being offered a job in games testing and attending a fantastic launch party Sarin set out to make gaming became a way of life and not just a hobby.
Sarin joined the UK Fragdolls in 2005. Her ability to excel in a variety of games on a range of formats, whilst keeping up a flowing conversation, ensured her position with Ubisoft. Since then Sarin has cut out her role by working industry events, interviewing developers, competing on Xbox live, and strutting her stuff at music festivals. She has also been on television, radio, and rather large stages allowing her to promote gaming to the masses and hand over super size cheques to worthy clans. She loves the community aspect of gaming and is always interested in new ideas and events for lan, coop or internet gaming.
Her dream in the gaming world is to educate future gamers about the possibilities the industry holds. Many children are growing out of gaming due to a lack of careers advice and encouragement in the area. As the gaming industry grows on a worldwide scale, we need fresh minds to push it to new levels.
